[LG Chem’s 2025 Top 10 News] Advancing Technology, Expanding Sustainability: A Year of Strategic Milestones
2026. 01. 21
The new year invites us to look back thoughtfully on the past twelve months—to reflect on the challenges we embraced, the innovations we delivered, and the priorities that will shape our future.
For LG Chem, 2025 was a year defined by three strategic pillars: strengthening materials competitiveness, driving sustainable transformation and expanding customer value. Today, we revisit that journey by highlighting ten milestones that best represent LG Chem’s progress throughout the year.

LG Chem signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with EL Electric, a specialist in EV infrastructure, to co-develop eco-friendly, flame-retardant charging cables. Leveraging our proprietary ultra-high molecular weight PVC, these cables provide superior heat resistance and flame retardancy to effectively suppress fire spread. They also offer 30% greater flexibility than conventional materials, significantly enhancing ease of use and durability. This recyclable solution not supports circularity and solidifies LG Chem’s presence in the rapidly expanding global EV infrastructure market.

Our commitment to environmental stewardship reached new heights as the Tianjin (China) and Hwachi (Korea) plants secured UL Solutions’ Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) certifications. The Tianjin site achieved the top-tier “Platinum” grade of 100% recycling rate. By diversifying recycling pathways and transitioning to biomass fuels, LG Chem now operates six ZWTL-certified sites globally. We remain committed to our ESG agenda, including expanded use of PCR packaging bags across all operations by 2026.

At InterBattery 2025, LG Chem unveiled LPF (LG Precursor Free), Korea’s first mass-produced precursor-free cathode material. This innovative process eliminates the need for separate precursor production through direct calcination, enabling shorter lead times, reduced capital intensity (CAPEX) and significantly lower carbon emissions. Mass production began in the first half of 2025, further diversifying LG Chem’s battery materials portfolio across high-nickel, mid-nickel and cost-efficient LFP solutions.

LG Chem’s Type 2 diabetes treatment lineup—including Zemiglo, Zemimet, Zemidapa and Zemilow—surpassed KRW 1.06 trillion (approximately USD 780 million) in cumulative outpatient prescription sales. As the first Korean diabetes brand to achieve this milestone, Zemiglo’s has demonstrated 11 consecutive year of growth trajectory (35% CAGR) underscores our R&D excellence and clinical leadership. LG Chem continues to improve patient access through expanded combination therapies and the recent introduction of Glucophage.

In partnership with Japan’s Noritake, LG Chem developed a high-performance silver paste for bonding SiC (silicon carbide) chips in automotive power semiconductors. Engineered to withstand extreme operating temperatures of up to 300°C, this solution combines LG Chem’s particle design expertise with Noritake’s dispersion technology. Its room-temperature storage stability enhances logistics efficiency and reduces process loss, positioning LG Chem to compete in a market projected to reach KRW 850 billion by 2030.

LG Enil Bio Refining, a subsidiary of LG Chem, broke ground on Korea’s first HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) plant in Seosan. Targeting an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons by 2027, the facility will produce low-carbon fuels from renewable feedstocks. The resulting bio-naphtha will accelerate the expansion of LG Chem’s ISCC PLUS-certified Bio Circular Balanced (BCB) product portfolio, including SAP, ABS, and EVA, driving LG Chem’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
