LG Chem Displays Sustainable Technology at CHINAPLAS 2025!

        2025. 05. 09

In April 2025, CHINAPLAS 2025, Asia’s largest plastics and rubber industry exhibition, was held in Shenzhen, China. This year’s exhibition attracted more than 4,500 companies and more than 280,000 industry representatives and experts from around the world.

As sustainable materials and technologies emerge as key agendas across the industry, LG Chem, under the slogan “Chemistry Empowered, Value Enhanced!,” showcased future-oriented material technologies that embody both sustainability and high value.

LG Chem’s booth, spanning approximately 400㎡, featured six themes: Smart Living, Sustainable Packaging, Advanced Mobility, Healthcare Solutions, Empowering Energy, and Sustainability Hub. Centered on real-world products and technologies, the exhibition captured strong interest from attendees. Now, let’s take a look at the sustainable material technology LG Chem presented at CHINAPLAS 2025!

        Smart Living
: Experiencing LG Chem’s Technology in Real Life

Smart Living: Experiencing LG Chem’s Technology in Real Life

At the Smart Living Zone, visitors could see a variety of real-life products featuring LG Chem’s materials. These materials are mainly used in premium home appliances and automotive interior and exterior components, with careful consideration for technology, design, and the environment.

What stood out most were the low-gloss ABS used in refrigerator doors and the ultra-high polymerization PVC used as artificial leather in automotive interiors. The low-gloss ABS reduces light reflection while delivering a luxurious texture, making it an ideal material for premium home appliances where sophisticated design is key. The ultra-high molecular weight PVC offers greater resistance to heat and abrasion compared to conventional materials, ensuring both durability and usability.

At CHINAPLAS 2025, specific examples demonstrated how these materials are applied to actual products. Visitors were able to directly experience the texture and color expression, gaining a deeper understanding of the materials’ unique characteristics.

        Sustainable Packaging
: A Packaging Solution Surpassing the Limits of Recycling

Sustainable Packaging: A Packaging Solution Surpassing the Limits of Recycling

The next zone was UNIQABLE™, LG Chem’s brand for homegrown packaging solutions. UNIQABLE™ is a film-type packaging material made from single PE (polyethylene), an eco-friendly material that delivers the same level of durability and functionality as conventional multi-material packaging, while being 100% recyclable. At CHINAPLAS 2025, the integrated All-PE film materials brand ‘UNIQABLE™’ was showcased with a variety of products, including MDOPE and pouch samples made from BOPE. A film-cutting device was also set up, allowing visitors to cut and handle the materials themselves for a hands-on experience.

These hands-on experiences effectively conveyed the excellence of LG Chem’s technology and clearly demonstrated the company’s sustainable strategy to overcome the limitations of conventional multi-material packaging.

        Advanced Mobility
        : A Material for Next-Generation Mobility

Advanced Mobility: A Material for Future Automobiles

At the Advanced Mobility Zone, materials developed in response to shifting trends in the automotive industry were showcased. Key highlights included high-gloss ASA and high-strength engineering plastic, which not only enhance the performance of automotive components such as exterior parts, but also contribute to completing the vehicles’ designs.

High-gloss ASA is resistant to external conditions such as UV rays, heat, and moisture, making it suitable for exposed parts like radiator grilles and side mirror housings. Engineering plastics offer electromagnetic shielding while meeting both lightweight and high-strength requirements, drawing attention as essential materials in the rapidly advancing era of electric vehicles and smart mobility.

The zone featured real-world applications of the materials along with a model display, allowing visitors to directly explore the structure and functionality of the products.

        Healthcare Solutions
: Technology that Directly Touches the Skin, Delivering Both Beauty and Safety

Healthcare Solutions: Technology that Directly Touches the Skin, Delivering Both Beauty and Safety

The Healthcare Solutions Zone showcased materials used in the medical and beauty industries. One highlight was an LED care mask made from transparent PC, a material known for its excellent heat resistance and biocompatibility, making it safe for direct contact with skin. With outstanding stability and durability, it is gaining attention as a key material in the growing high-end beauty device market, where both functionality and design are essential.

        Empowering Energy
: Material Technologies for EV Charging Infrastructure

        • Empowering Energy: Material Technologies for EV Charging Infrastructure

At the Empowering Energy Zone, LG Chem unveiled its ultra-high molecular weight PVC material developed for use in the EV infrastructure market. This material is applied to EV charging cables and is designed to maintain stable performance in both high and low temperatures. It also offers greater flexibility compared to conventional cables.

EV charging cables have evolved beyond simple connectors to become core infrastructure that ensures safety and efficiency, making material selection a critical factor. In this field, LG Chem is leading the market with their proprietary technology and high quality standards.

        Sustainability Hub
: Technologies that Bring Sustainability to Life

Sustainability Hub: Technologies that Bring Sustainability to Life

Located at the center of the exhibition hall, the Sustainability Hub served as a focal point showcasing LG Chem’s eco-friendly strategy. Two core technologies were featured in this space.

The first was supercritical pyrolysis technology, which enables the recycling of contaminated plastics and films that are difficult to process through conventional mechanical recycling. The second was HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) technology, which produces eco-friendly biofuel by hydrogenating biomass derived from waste cooking oil or animal fat.

Sustainability Hub: Technologies that Bring Sustainability to Life

The highlight of the Hub was the LETZero zone, where LG Chem’s eco-friendly materials brand was introduced. A ‘Circular Loop’ display visually explained what LETZero is and how its materials are applied to real products to support a circular economy. In addition, a RE:SOBAN product made with LETZero materials and a documentary film showcasing the story of its creation were presented, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of LG Chem’s eco-friendly brand philosophy.

Visitors to LG Chem’s booth were able to clearly sense that the company’s technologies are not confined to laboratories, but are expanding into real-life solutions that drive meaningful change.
