        Welcome to LETZero Encyclopedia, an introductory series to LG Chem’s eco-friendly brand LETZero and their products. Last time, we introduced 3HP, the core material for compostable plastics. Today, we look into the features and usages of Earthyle™.


        Eco-friendly Bio Nylon Earthyle™

        What is Earthyle™?

        LG Chem’s eco-friendly bio nylon Earthyle™ puts sustainability of the Earth in its core value. Unlike existing fossil-based nylons, it uses lysine extracted from sugar as its raw material. It is an innovative material that cuts down carbon emissions while maintaining the same manufacturing process of traditional nylons.

        The name Earthyle™ is the combination of ‘Earth’ and ‘Style,’ which reflects its ambition to deliver a pleasant experience to the customers, and sustainability to the Earth. Born through LG Chem’s advanced fermentation technology and professional knowledge, Earthyle™ is gaining attention as a product that can delay global warming for our future generations and yet provide high satisfaction to the consumers.

        Features of Earthyle™

        Earthyle™ is a product with both eco-friendliness and excellent functionality, holding a number of benefits. To start with, by using a bio-raw material extracted from sugar, it has cut down a significant amount of carbon emissions compared to traditional fossil-based nylons. Recently, the nylon market has been expanding in its size, raising concerns about massive carbon emissions during the manufacturing process. While conventional nylons are made through chemical processing of crude oil-based ingredients, Earthyle™ obtains its raw material from a microbial fermentation process, resulting in lower carbon emissions.

        Furthermore, Earthyle™ has excellent hygroscopic properties, suitable for the production of clothing that can dry easily when the wearer sweats. It provides safety, thanks to the excellent flame-retardant properties. It also boasts high lightness and elasticity, making itself ideal for not just clothes but a variety of daily necessities.

        In particular, LG Chem has devoted themselves to developing the raw material for this bio nylon. The process of turning converted sugar into lysine through fermentation and then changing this into amine (a key raw material for nylon) again, is a highly complex task that brings together the research efforts of experts from various fields.

        Earthyle™ is a versatile material utilized across all industries, including automotive, electronics, and clothing. First of all, its hygroscopic properties and elasticity make it apt for the production of outdoor clothing. Plus, its outstanding flame-retardant properties can contribute to the safety when applied to workwear or protective gears. Next, the lightness and durability of the material come useful in automotive interior/exterior and electronic product parts. Earthyle™ can be used as the raw material for 3D printing, which means it is also suitable for high-value products. Not to mention the pleasant wearing experience it provides in clothing items that come into direct contact with the skin, such as women’s underwear and socks.

        As you see, Earthyle™ is satisfying both the planet and consumers through a wide range of products, paving the way into a sustainable future. It is being recognized as a product with great potential, as an eco-friendly material offering innovative and sustainable alternatives for both the environment and consumers.
